Equipping community members with practical skills to support
older adults during times of stress, crisis, and uncertainty.

RAPID Psychological First Aid Training
for Older Adults

High Country Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the Appalachian Public Health Innovation Lab, offers training in RAPID Psychological First Aid for Older Adults. This course is designed to help community members provide compassionate, practical support to older adults experiencing stress or crisis, with a special focus on older adults living in rural Appalachia.

The training is open to all community members, and no prior mental health training is required.

This training helps participants:

  • Notice signs of stress, distress, or crisis in older adults
  • Offer calm, supportive, and nonjudgmental assistance
  • Connect older adults with appropriate resources and support
  • Help reduce stigma around mental health and asking for help

A virtual, self-paced training option is available and can be accessed by using step-by-step instructions.

We also welcome the opportunity to bring live training to groups and organizations online or in-person within North Carolina.
